Fenerbahçe Eyeing Newcastle United Defender

Newcastle United's relegation woes could be Fenerbahçe's gain.  Reports out of England this week say the club is interested in Newcastle United star Steven Taylor.  The English club are looking to cash in after being relegated after last season, and the defender could be on his way out.

English media outlet The Chronicle and a number of others are reporting that Fener are interested in Taylor.  The Chronicle says Taylor nearly joined the Canaries last summer before signing a three-year deal with Newcastle United.

The media outlet states that Taylor initially expressed his desire to remain with Newcastle despite their relegation, but uncertainty at the club has allowed the defender to reconsider his options.  The 23-year-old is not expected to make a decision regarding his future until August, however.  Taylor reportedly wants to see what changes are made at Newcastle before he makes a commitment to a club.

The report states that English club West Ham United are also interested in Taylor, as are a number of other clubs.  Taylor was a pivotal member of the English U-21 team, earning 29 caps and scoring four times.  He was also named to the senior squad for England but has yet to see the pitch.

I don't want him. The only reason this guy would come to us over Premier League clubs, is for the money. His heart wouldn;t be in Fener, and English players can't play good in overseas leagues.

One of the only shining stars during Newcastles abysmal 08-09 campaign.

I think he'd actually be a damn good addition to our squad. He's a really good back...

Ozturk, what a correct assumption! English players do not play well overseas! However i think that they will put thier heart into thier club tho.

fenerliyavuz • 11:34 • July 1, 2009
We should have got him before his american campaign! He is now recognised by many as a great defender!
Kozak • 11:59 • July 1, 2009
The Onyewu situation is exactly what happened to Newcastle United when trying to buy Arda before Euro 2008.

lets just get this guy and let lugano go, lugano wants to play somewhere else then fine he can go, its just a shame we couldnt get any money off him and also onyewu shud come and put edu onda bench and have either bilica or edu coming off the bench or sell edu but he has no complaints at fener so he deserves a first team start, confusing
