Turkey's Milli Takım dropped down sixteen spots to an embarrassing 28th place in the newest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking published on Wednesday. Meanwhile, 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup champions Brazil knocked down Spain from the top spot which they had been holding for a straight year.
FIFA published the July 2009 edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking on Wednesday. The biggest fall in the list belongs to Turkey's Milli Takım. After hanging in the Top 15 for the past year, Turkey have now dropped down to an embarrassing 28th place between Chile and Cameroon.
Turkey's highest ever ranking in the lists which have been compiled since 1993 was in July 2004 when the Milli Takım ranked 5th. That was of course after successful runs in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup in which Milli Takım had finished third in both occassions.
After missing out in EURO 2004 and the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Turkey had shot back up in the rankings with success in last summer's EURO 2008. Milli Takım were knocked out of the competition by Germany in the very last minute of the Semi-Final.
Since then, Turkey have had a very poor run so far in the 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualification. The Milli Takım has only won two out of six fixtures played and is currently in third position behind Spain and Bosnia & Herzegovina in Group 5 (UEFA).
In the meantime, EURO 2008 winners Spain have finally dropped down from the top spot which they had been holding for over a year. 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup winners Brazil are back in first position after almost a two year break. Notable rises in the new ranking were from Greece (6 spots), Serbia (6 spots), Denmark (9 spots), Australia (13 spots), Ivory Coast (20 spots) and Chile (10 spots).

Turkey only played 2 games and 1 of them was ruined by stupid play resulting in a red card..
Turkey is a top 15 team for sure.
?
how did we lose 16 ranks
Our country could die, but we cant be defeated!
We need a new coach.
As for the people who want Terim gone, allow the man to finish his job and try to get us to the World Cup. Let's see what type of heart and passion our guys play with over the last 4 games.
Remember, we have the following positives with us:
1. All the Pressure is On Bosnia
2. They still have to play Spain
3. We still have a head-to-head with Bonia (who we already beat)
4. The Turks are known for their 11th hour miracles
Personally I don't really think these rankings actually mean very much anyway, I think Turkey is capable of beating ANY team in the world after the dominating display they showed us against Spain.
