Fenerbahçe Deal For Onyewu Appears To Be Dead

Rumour  •  Author: Nathan Redd   •   Friday, July 3, 2009 Picture

It appears that Fenerbahçe are out of the race to sign American defender Oguchi Onyewu.  The Canaries were believed to be the leaders for his services earlier this week, but Oguchi's agent spoke to reporters this weekend and said their deal is now off the table.

Oguchi Onyewu has seen his stock soar in the last week.  The Standard Liege player was offered a new deal by his Belgian club, but Onyewu now has offers from across Europe.  It appeared earlier this week that Fenerbahçe were the leaders to sign Onyewu, but the Canaries are now apparently out of the race.

Lyle Yorks, the agent for Onyewu, said the Fenerbahçe offer, as well as all English and French offers, are now off the table.  "We are in serious discussions with one Spanish team, two Serie A (Italian) teams, and Ajax Amsterdam," he told Soccer365 this weekend.

Reports indicate that Espanyol and Valencia are the Spanish leaders, while Genoa, Parma, Palermo, Bologna, Livorno, and Catania have all been linked with an Italian move for the defender.  Ajax entered the race late this week for Onyewu.

Aziz yildirim is stupid. He had to act quicker! He had to ask lugano if he is staying or not. Yes or no? Not 2 months waiting. What a stupid man!

Onyewu is good but lugano is way better! Give lugano his 4 mil!

Were are the new super stars? We are still waiting AZIZ!

Alrite not every Turkish person hates Greeks Carlos. Dude are u like really young and naive or something. Racism doesn't belong here. I have some very close Greek friends but w/e on with the topic.

Looking at the list of other clubs interested in Onyewu, i would say only Valencia and Genoa can compete with an offer made by Fenerbahce. Maaaaaybe Ajax....
polat10 • 21:27 • July 3, 2009
if you guys think aziz yildirim is stupid then your not a fenerbahce fan do you see everything that he has done for us no other president will be able to do what he has done for us we can get these players easily but there gonna be asking them selves what am i gonna be doing in turkey???

ozanFB • 01:40 • July 4, 2009
no matter how supportive we are but its annoying seeing fener (AY) being not able making good foreign transfers.. last year we really had the chance to build up an very strong team - considering the cash we got from the CL - but all AY managed was getting guiza (which is great) but loosing aurelio, appiah und kezman.. it was really a unique opportunity using the cash and reputation gained from the success in the CL. this year so far the turkish transfers (özer and topuz) are great but loosing lugano, edu and maybe guiza in exchange for nothing would weaken the squad
Edisk6 • 02:10 • July 4, 2009
well said ozan i completely agree, i think the critical moment was how we let zico walk right out the door without even attempting to give him the money he deserved after all he did. He was a manager that could bring in some of the worlds talent but instead we bring in aragones on a ridiculous salary instead of keeping aurelio for example. For this season though i think our attacking half of the field is set maybe just get a young cheap striker in case we semih or guiza get injured. But defensive half of the field is a problem, rb is good and LB has to stay with RC(whether we like it or not he aint leaving). But im not content to wait for Edu's return, even though Bilica is good we need another world class CB (still hoping a lugano extension but hope is slowly fading) and we really fkd up the onyewu signing or so it seems. Bekir is a good versatile defender but i dont think we can start him and bilica at CB all year and even though gokhan played well in a couple of games at CB my belief is that he is too short for the CB role(sorry gokhan its not ur fault). Enough said about the defense but the DMF position we need someone who wants to play there and is good eg.aurelio. We cant stick emre there if he doesnt feel comfortable there and the kid is pushing 30 yrs old and we want to start him in a new position.
Kozak • 05:07 • July 4, 2009
Look guys, Galatasaray has got the players they want because they were Free Agents and Frank Riijkard probably promised them some bull.

Besiktas are in champions league and attract players easily. This season will not go right for us in the transfer season because of Aragones and because we're only in the Europa league.
ikhann • 06:28 • July 4, 2009
I fully agree with everything you say kozak...we fans just have to go through Fener's rebuilding phase this year.
carlos3 • 08:20 • July 4, 2009
hang on polat if onyewu dosent come dose that mean lugano will stay
Kozak • 08:21 • July 4, 2009
no lol. it just means that Bilica + Bekir gets starting role instead of Bilica + Onyewu.
carlos3 • 08:23 • July 4, 2009
so thats it lugano gone forever no more lugano
carlos3 • 08:24 • July 4, 2009
AND BY THE WAY HAVE YOU GUYS COMPLETELY FORGITTEN ABOUT EDU OUR STAR EDU DRACENA
Kozak • 08:38 • July 4, 2009
edu is injured mate..you cant have an injured player on the field.

and its not aziz fault that lugano is leaving..Lugano wants to leave.

You should be thanking Aziz that we had a player of the caliber of Lugano for 3 years.
fb_fan • 09:00 • July 4, 2009
yeah and by the way if it wasnt for Aziz we even wouldnt be able to talk about transfers,cz exactly Aziz raised our budget to the sky!
Kozak • 09:22 • July 4, 2009
Cause experience is what the Galatasaray squad had when they won the 2000 european cup.

Cause experience is what Gencler had when they made it to the fourth round (round of 16) only to lose to Valencia on SILVER GOAL.

Cause experience is what Shaktar, Zenit and Feyenoord had when they won the UEFA cup.

Get the experience bull out of here. As long as your hungry, got the right attitude and have a coach that isn't crap you can win.
polat10 • 10:11 • July 4, 2009
fenerlover01 you dont know how much we try to get these players but the players are asking them selves what am i gonna do in turkey????? there gonna think there not gonna accomplish anything and the more we start winning the more respect we get and the players will eventually be joining fenerbahce
fenerlover01 • 10:37 • July 4, 2009
i get emotional, when foreign players think little of turkish football, especially of fenerbahce. the lack of respect burns me. i dont understand how gs got rijkaard. i really dont.
ozturk • 10:42 • July 4, 2009
we could have got rijkaard too. Would have been a better get then Daum.
Skyblues • 10:43 • July 4, 2009
fenerlover01 dont worry my brother, fenerbahce is on the right track, things dont happen overnight...see 10 years from now, fenerbahce doing the ultimate domination in our league with this budget and clever administration. being in the Champions League every year, then you will see who is coming or not, no matter the quality of to-be-bankrupted galata or others...i am confident about the future.
Kozak • 10:45 • July 4, 2009
some managers dont have their heads up their assess and think they should only coach the best teams.

Zico, Daum, Lucescu, Riijkard are few examples.
carlos3 • 10:45 • July 4, 2009
do you know why we got rid of daum 3 years ago bcasue of his drug addict rijikaard was gonnna come to fener vut we wanted daum instead for some reason
carlos3 • 10:47 • July 4, 2009
fenerbahce should get kerlon he would be the next fenerbahce ALEX in my eyesight hes fast dose TOO MANY skills and is not greedy and he should be cheap because he plays in cheivo barca are biding 5 mil for him we should go over it and sign KERLON
carlos3 • 10:50 • July 4, 2009
OMG TEVEZ IS FOR FREE thats who we should get he young fast and an amazing striker get rid of guiza give him to valencia and get kerlon for 7 mil get tevez for free try and keep lugano try again and again and again to sign onyewu and try to get oba martins fenerbahce are gonna rock the uefa cup
carlos3 • 10:52 • July 4, 2009

-------gokhan-------lugano----onyewu-----r.carlos--------
-------------------------emre----------------------------
----------topuz/kazim-------------------ugur/deivid------
--------------------------kerlon/alex--------------------
------------tevez------------semih/martins---------------
imagine this guys
Kozak • 10:59 • July 4, 2009
Tevez isnt free. Do you know anything?

Tevez's rights are owned by MSI.
ozturk • 12:27 • July 4, 2009
Tevez. lol.
Fener_Chris • 12:27 • July 4, 2009
Tevez would cost 25m pounds and Manchester City seem to be the favourites to sign him. Onyewu- it's not a great loss in my opinion. So he had a few good performances at the Confed Cup. People are forgetting his comical performances at the 2006 World cup and he wasn't judged good enough for the EPL.
carlos3 • 12:32 • July 4, 2009
and kerlon
sheeesh guys this is the man we need
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Yj7GoXPZw

Kozak • 12:44 • July 4, 2009
any one thats labelled the next messi/maradona/ronaldo/pele ultimately fails..

its like a curse i swear..
Rapaz_Brasileiro • 12:53 • July 4, 2009
Kerlon can't play in the Turkish league.. Even in Brazil they kickt him when he did his seal dribble, Imagine what they would do in Turkey if he is going to do that.
haris • 13:39 • July 4, 2009
Guys, please, be serious! This is not a forum for children's dreams! Eto'o, Tevez, Kerlon!? We can't manage to sign even an anonymous Oguchi Onyewu from a mediocre Belgium club! Doesn't work like that anymore. Yildrim and FB management must work on club's image.
Kozak • 13:52 • July 4, 2009
its only really carlos3 thats throwing those names around lol.
fenerlover01 • 15:27 • July 4, 2009
hahaha kozak, u crack me up man. but yeah, haris is right. aziz and others in management must imrpove feners image globally, like the top teams in epl for instance, they are advertised everywhere. like im from australia and ive got to go through alot of crap to buy a fener jersey. its little things that make the bigger picture.in my opinion, aziz and management team have 2 more years to prove themselves, because. this year theyve got new playeers and coach, it is normal not to meet expectations, players and coach still geting to understand one another, but come the season after this, if same thing is still happening, i believe fener need new management. because we got all this money and we are making very little of not any improvements. ok some of you say we are making it into the champs league back to back, but so what? this privilage should be taken for granted for such a big club as fener. just look at R. Madrid, they were becoming like fener, gradually moving into the shadows, barca was in the spot light, but look at them now.. you guys get what im trying to say?
Kozak • 15:49 • July 4, 2009
Fenerbahces appeal will never leave the shores of Europe.

Clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Inter Milan struggle to achieve Global Status. Even Manchester and Real Madrid who are globabally known, people struggle to name a player from the teams.

Anyway management is not the problem..Aziz Yildirim has made all the right choices so far. Hes made Fenerbahce into one of the richest clubs in the world. A beautiful stadium. World Class players.

Really statistics would show Fenerbahce is underachieving. What really is the problem is the quality of Turkish football. Until the lower teams start shaping up Fenerbahce won't have to improve drastically..

Last season was a shocking season right? One of the worst seasons in Fenerbahce history..but still finished 4th. Don't you see something wrong with that??

Kayserispor/Ankaraspor/Gaziantepsor all achieved safety and then it seemed they put the brakes on. Didn't even challenege the relegation fighting teams anymore.

Bursaspor, Sivasspor and maybe Trabzonspor are what Turkish football needs. These are the teams that stand up to the big teams. They say no, we want your place, we want in Europe, we want the league title.

If nobody challenges the big teams why should the big teams improve?
kazimfener • 16:19 • July 4, 2009
Ok now Aziz is pressing the tranfer button. Our biggest transfer. This guy scored 24 goals in 35 matches in the Brazilian league. Dude we have to get him Barcelona offered him 13 million but he rejected so we need to offer him 16 million or 17. Because we need a brazilian that was like alex before...
