Turkcell Süper Lig Enters Final Week Before League Break
Turkcell Super Lig • Author: Mehmet Pozam • Saturday, December 19, 2009
The first half of the 2009/10 season is coming to an end. Week 17 has already begun with an exhillerating match at the İnönü, where Bursaspor beat Beşiktaş to move up to the top of the standings. Joint leaders Kayserispor will be hoping to take back the lead, however, when they host Antalyaspor at the Kadir Has on Saturday. Meanwhile, Fenerbahçe will be visiting Trabzonspor on Sunday night to heat up the competition even more before the league enters a five week break.
Bursaspor opened Turkcell Süper Lig Week 17 with a 3-2 win over Beşiktaş at the İnönü Stadium on Friday night. The visitors opened the scoreline 19 minutes into the game with a goal from Ozan, but the home side equalized in the second half with a contraversial goal from Nobre in the 56th. Although a Bobo penalty, seven minutes later took the lead for the Black Eagles, Ertuğrul Sağlam's boys found the back of the net twice in the final six minutes of the game to clinch a major win for Bursaspor.
League action will continue on Saturday with six games. Everyone's attention will be at the Kadir Has Stadium, where Kayserispor will host Antalyaspor in hopes to regain their leadership in the standings. Frank Rijkaard's Galatasaray will be hosting capital-side Gençlerbirliği at the Ali Sami Yen in the evening, to wrap things up for Cimbom.
The first half of the season will come to a close with a Trabzonspor vs. Fenerbahçe derby at the Avni Aker. Sunday night's game will bring both team's sportive directors, Ünal Karaman and Aykut Kocaman together after 13 years. Back in the 1995/6 season, Fenerbahçe had snatched away the Championship from Trabzonspor's hands thanks to a dramatic 2-1 comeback win at the Avni Aker. Goals had come from Oğuz Çetin and Aykut Kocaman, himself. Two weeks later, Fenerbahçe would win the league title with just a two point margin over runners-up Trabzonspor.
