Fenerbahçe's next opponent in the UEFA Europa League, LOSC Lille Métropole, entered the winter break in style on Wednesday night as they thrashed Nancy with four goals to nothing. LOSC continued their amazing run in the French Ligue 1 and climbed up to second position in the league standings. Lille striker Gervinho who scored two of the four goals on Wednesday's Nancy victory, became the Ligue 1 top scorer.

Lille continued to impress French football fans, when they took on Nancy at the Stade Marcel Picot on Wednesday night. The Mastiffs were the visitors on the night and it took them a while to open the goalscoring. Eleven minutes into the game, a Ludovic Obraniak freekick found Lille defender Adil Rami in the danger zone who managed to header the ball into the net, but the match official disallowed the goal for a foul on a Nancy defender.
18-year-old Eden Hazard broke the deadlock in the 42 minute, when he received a Gervinho pass, turned around on the penalty spot and perfectly struck the ball inside the Nancy goal: 1-0. The young Belgian midfielder, not to be underestimated because of his age and definitely someone who deserves to be taken seriously. Half-time score: 1-0.
Six minutes into the second-half, Lille's Ivorian striker Gervinho (pictured above)capitalized on a rebound from the Nancy keeper and he powerfully struck the ball over the shot stopper: 2-0. Gervinho continued to cause serious trouble for Nancy as he found a perfect one-on-one with the Nancy keeper in the 60th minute, but only to be shoved on the ground. Nancy defender Sami would be sent off for his challenge, leaving the home side with ten men. French striker Pierre Alain Frau scored Lille's third from the spot kick: 3-0.
This time it would be Eden Hazard who gave Gervinho the assist for Lille's fourth goal of the night. 22-year-old Gervinho scoring his eighth goal in six games. The Ivory Coast striker now the French Ligue 1 top scorer with a total of eleven goals.
With this result, LOSC Lille Métropole enter the winter break in second position, nine points seperating them with current leaders Girondins de Bordeaux. Lille now have a break until January 9th, when they take on Colmar in the French Cup.

Anyway, I would advice against taking this team lightly. As for the French league, don't forget that Bordeaux and Lyon have eliminated Juventus and Liverpool from the Champions League. French teams are strong.
