With the Turkcell Süper Lig season on hiatus for the winter break, Fenerbahçe are set to make repairs to the pitch at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. The condition of the pitch has been deteriorating for much of the fall and early winter, but the club has hired a Dutch company renowned for its expertise in football pitch repairs.
While the Fenerbahçe football team is on winter break, club administrators are making necessary repairs to the pitch at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. The pitch has been a major problem during the first half of the season, and the club will be working around the clock during the winter break to get it ready for the next home match.
Fener have hired a Dutch company called SGL Concepts to undertake the assignment of improving the pitch. The company has worked at other major football stadiums throughout Europe.
The Fenerbahçe board met recently and agreed that the pitch was in dire condition and needed repairs. SGL Concepts will begin work to improve the pitch next week, according to a report by Fanatik. The company will install lawn lights, and visible improvement on the pitch is expected within one month. The company recently did similar work at Real Madrid's stadium.
The Dutch company is expected to measure the quality of grass and the amount of sunlight necessary in certain areas for proper growth. They will start in front of the Türk Telekom Tribune and begin work there.
The pitch conditions have drawn ire from coach Christoph Daum recently, who stated "Alex and Özer have been high points for us this season, but the pitch condition creates a lot of problems for them. It will be a lot better as soon as we get it fixed."
Young star Özer Hurmacı said the team will improve as the condition of the pitch does. Özer scored two goals earlier this week against Izmir side Altay, but he's confident he can be even better on a new pitch. "We'll be much more comfortable in the second half once we get it fixed."
