Türkiye's Milli Takım haven't played a match in several months, but the team slipped one spot in the latest FIFA rankings released this week. While much of the world is gearing up for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the Turks will be announcing upcoming friendlies in the near future to prepare for Euro 2012.
Türkiye checks in at number 42 in the latest FIFA world rankings, down one spot from the previous ranking. The Turks received 728 votes, just one short of Japan and Northern Ireland, who finished in front of them. They also received one more vote than Sweden, who check in at number 43.
Spain received the top spot in the current ranking, followed by Brazil, Netherlands, Italy, and Portugal. Egypt made the biggest jump in the table following their African Cup of Nations victory recently. The Egyptians moved up 14 spots to number ten in the current rankings.
The Milli Takım have been without a coach since the resignation of Fatih Terim last fall. Terim failed to guide the squad to World Cup qualification despite their prolific success in the 2008 European championships. Guus Hiddink was recently rumoured to be the next coach of the team, but the current Russian coach appears to have put an end to that speculation this week.
