Yellow Canaries Hit Once Again By Injuries & Suspensions

Not only did Fenerbahçe drop two points at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium last night, but they also lost a number of key players due to injuries and suspensions. Just a few days after Uğur Boral's season-ending injury, this time it was Özer Hurmacı and Diego Lugano that received injury blows against Diyarbakır. On top of that, the Yellow Canaries also lost Dani Güiza and Mehmet Topuz through stoppage time bookings.
What an unfortunate week for Fenerbahçe. Right after making an impressive start to the second half of the season, the Yellow Canaries have genuinely been stricken by misfortune. It all began with Uğur Boral tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee against Bursaspor last Thursday. The left winger is scheduled to undergo surgery this Wednesday; however, the operation will keep him out of action for the remainder of the season.
The Yellow Canaries couldn't shake off the injury jinx last night and supporters were shocked in the 49th minute when Özer Hurmacı was holding his foot in pain and he was stretchered off the field instantly. Half an hour later, Uruguayan defender Diego Lugano also received an injury blow to his right leg and asked to be substituted off.
Fenerbahçe issued an official statement on Monday afternoon giving injury updates for Özer and Lugano. While it was announced that Özer's injury wasn't very serious and that the 20-year-old midfielder had a routine check on his previously injured right foot that came out clean, club doctor Ertuğrul Karanlık revealed that Lugano had a torn muscle in the back of his right leg.
Karanlık also reported that Lugano had begun receiving treatments for his injury straight after Sunday night's game and hoped that the Uruguayan defender would recover as soon as possible. Reports in the Turkish press state that Fenerbahçe will be without the services of Diego Lugano for a longer period of time than expected, claiming that the centre back could be out of action for at least two weeks, up to one month.
Fenerbahçe's misfortune continued in stoppage time last night, as both Dani Güiza and Mehmet Topuz received bookings that will make them uneligible for upcoming games. Dani Güiza received a yellow card in the 90th minute, after being fouled and appealing for a 'card' with a hand gesture, and accumulated his fourth consecutive yellow card that will keep him out of the match squad in the next week's Manisaspor fixture.
Mehmet Topuz will also be missing the Manisaspor game and also this Thursday's Ziraat Turkish Cup Quarter-Final return match against Bursaspor, as he was sent off in the dying moments of the game, because of a brawl with Diyarbakırspor player Barış Ataş. While the vehement gestures seemed mutual, Ataş only saw a yellow card.
