Daum Happy to End Winless Streak Against Antalyaspor

Coach Christoph Daum met with the media Sunday night following his team's 1-0 victory over Antalyaspor.  The Canaries' boss said his team was far from perfect, but indicated that the squad is relieved to end their winless streak.  Daum also changed his tune regarding his team's chances of winning the championship this season.

Fenerbahçe ended their seven-game winless streak Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Antalyaspor.  Afterwards, Christoph Daum spoke with reporters about his team's performance.

"We felt that we deserved to win this match.  We controlled possession, and most importantly, we got into get positions and closed off our goal.  We deserved to win this match," he said.  "We were in a difficult situation before this match.  There was incredible pressure on our players.  In the end, it wasn't easy, but we played well.  We had some good positions.  We did a better job of concentrating, we played well, and we got a good result," Daum stated.

The coach also thanked the fans Sunday night.  "I want to thank the fans for their support.  For Güiza and the entire team, they supported all of us.  Even though he didn't score, Güiza is fighting for this team.  Every striker can go through a period like this.  We're happy with him.  He will score goals; it will just take time."

After last week's match against IBBSpor, Daum told reporters that it would be very difficult for his side to win the title.  He was asked Sunday if he still felt this way.  "We have a lot of matches remaining, but if we can achieve results like this, we can win the championship."

Daum also spoke about the difference today from last week's match.  "I want to congratulate our team.  I'm very pleased with our concentration today.  We controlled possession and closed off our goal.  After going through a difficult period, I'm pleased with our performance today," he said.  "Of course we want to score more goals and get into more scoring positions.  But winning and earning three points was the most important thing, and we achieved our goal.

We've played well at times, but most importantly, I wanted to see us fight.  Tonight we fought hard.  I think the fans are happy with our effort also.  This is a good start for us, but we need to win the next match also.  This is our goal," he said.

The coach was also asked about the performance of the strikers Sunday night.  "Our strikers didn't shine tonight; they struggled early on, but I felt that they got into more favorable positions later in the game.  Güiza also got into two or three good positions.  Our forwards didn't shine overall though, and that contributes to the struggles of our team.  But everyone fought hard tonight.  Everyone played their best," he said.

hold it,

Daum said "I want to thank the fans for their support. For Güiza and the entire team, they supported all of us. Even though he didn't score, Güiza is fighting for this team. Every striker can go through a period like this. We're happy with him. He will score goals; it will just take time."

exactly how long do you expect us to see him scoring a lot of goals? we've experienced this scoring drought from the day he was transfered to us until today, do something about it or put him on the bench and start semih or gokhan, im sure those two want to prove that they deserve a starting roll. but you just spend all your time on guiza, never pay attention to semih or gokhan, only when alex is injured thats when you put in your other striker. daum, you have a brain so use it, stop being so scared to use a 2 striker formation with alex on the field, enough with the defensive strategies.

Today there was a great fight!!! Polat did u realize that when guiza got injured at the near end of the match and still played, because he did not want his team to play 10 man on an important game. That showed alot of Guiza
ergin • 02:17 • March 8, 2010
Temirov none of us have ever said Guiza doesn't hustle a lot, because he does. He just doesn't score goals. I agree with Polat... he's had more than a year and a half to prove himself and has not done so...

guiza needs to start scoring thats all i got to say.. other than everything else, we need to be an attacking team.. we cannot finish thats the problem with this team..
polat10 • 03:07 • March 8, 2010
I never said anything about hustling, just goal scoring. Aragones and daum both said he needs some time, how much more time can he possibly need?

Till summer, before we sell him to some idiotic team willing to pay for him. I wonder if the clubs who're interested in Guiza watch him games ? This guy is a disaster.I first had hope in maybe 4-4-2, but even then he's sh!t.

We play like a midtable team. If we don't end up as champions or go to the CL, this board must bring Daum and Kocaman with them.

By the way, Turkey, EC 2012 team;

-----------------Volkan------------------
Gokan ----- Emre Gungor---Servet-----Ismail
--------------Topal-----Nuri---------------
Tunay Torun---------Gokhtan Tore-----Arda Turan
------------------Batuhan Karadeniz----------

Don't ask me why I post this, I just wanted to. lol

Congrats Fenerbahce.

They had almost no opportunities to score today that I saw.

Nah Gokhan Tore, Tunay and Batuhan won't be ready by then. I can see Tore as a sub but Batuhan and Tunay have a way to go. Especially Batuhan. Besiktas need to let the kid go.

Gokhan Tore is going to be the best midfielder and player Turkey has ever had though, no doubt.

Anyway its time to let Guiza go. Andre Santos would do a better job at scoring goals than him. Guiza has a lot of fight in him its just that theres no end result most of the time..

I think Tunay will be ready. He's 20 years old. By 2012 he's already 22.

Also Tolgay Arslan from HSV is a big talent, he plays for our umit milli. Martin Jol brought him from Borrussia Dortmund youth to HSV last summer before going to Ajax. The kid scored in the earlier season 23 goals in 13 matches for Borrussia youth. He's got an incredible technique. I watched him at some games of HSV and also against Besiktas, that will be the next Ronaldo.

Luckily, both players refused to come out for Germany and said their dream is to play for Turkey.
Kozak • 13:54 • March 8, 2010
Well its also a good thing that they got straight up Turkish names. I can see maybe people thinking Mesut Ozil is Germany but theres no mistaking Tunay Torun or Tolgay Ali Arslan :)

Gokhan Tore is going to be massive for us. The Frank Lampard of Turkey hopefully.
Temirov123 • 14:08 • March 8, 2010
jay jay, that will never happen man, aziz will never sell santos
JayJayOkocha • 14:34 • March 8, 2010
Yup, Gokhan is seen as one of the best youth players of Chelsea. With players like Ozer,Arda,Gokhan,Tunay,Tolgay,Sen,Ipek,Karabulut,Caner,Nuri we really have some incredible players on the midfield.
WirSINDFenerbahce • 20:33 • March 8, 2010
I've never heard of Tore, but why did Bayer Leverkusen let him go? If he's going to be that good they should have kept him:)
