A 6.0 magnitude earthquake -on the Richter scale- hit the Eastern Turkish city of Elazığ, earlier this morning at 04:32 AM. According to reports, the official count is 57 people dead and over 50 injured. Rescue efforts have now come to an end, as officials say there are no more civilians under the rubble.
Although the earthquake had no major impact on the city centre of Elazığ, it heavily effected the rural villages of Kovancılar, notably Okçular, where the majority of the traditional sun-dried brick houses have collapsed. Rescuers, health personnel and aid workers are still trying to recover the area which is still effected by aftershocks.
As Fenerbahçe Worldwide, our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this natural disaster. We would also like to pass on our condolences to the families of those who have passed away. May they rest in peace.
