Eskişehirspor Help Fenerbahçe Close Gap in Süper Lig
Turkcell Super Lig • Author: Nathan Redd • Tuesday, March 9, 2010
The Turkcell Süper Lig Week 24 is in the books, and the race at the top of the table is getting more interesting. League-leaders Galatasaray played the final match of the weekend on Monday, but their grasp on the top spot is a little less comfortable following the weekend action. Here is a recap from week 24 in the league:
Four matches were on the schedule Saturday, but only three of them actually finished. That's because Diyarbakırspor's contest against Bursaspor was postponed due to fan violence. Tensions have been heating between the two clubs since the first leg earlier this season, but things got out of control over the weekend. Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed in the other three matches Saturday.
Kayserispor came back from a 0-2 deficit to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Kasımpaşa Saturday. Kasımpaşa took a 2-0 lead just after the break behind a Merthan Açıl goal, but Kayseri cut the lead in half just four minutes later. The visitors scored a 90th-minute goal from Abdullah Durak to tie the game and earn a point on the road.
Elsewhere Saturday, Sivasspor lost a heartbreaker to IBBSpor in Sivas. Istanbul's Tevfik Köse scored 21 minutes in, but the visitors played a man down for the final moments after Oğuz Sabankay picked up two yellow cards in a three-minute span. Nevertheless, Sivas couldn't find an equalizer at home. Also on Saturday, Trabzonspor edged closer to Kayserispor in the table after they picked up a 3-1 win over Gençlerbirliği in Trabzon. Trabzon was clinging to a 1-1 draw going into the final moments, but Umut Bulut and Drago Gabric both scored in the final two minutes of regulation to give Trabzon a 3-1 victory.
Three matches were on the schedule Sunday, but they produced only one total goal as Fener cruised to a 1-0 win over Antalyaspor. Ankaragücü and Gaziantepspor finished in a scoreless draw despite Ankara playing a man down for the final 40 minutes. Jan Rajnoch was sent off in the 50th minute but Gaziantep couldn't capitalize on the advantage. Manisaspor and Denizlispor also finished scoreless on Sunday.
Fener's win and Bursa's postponed match means the Yellow Canaries are just two points out of first place. That's because Galatasaray closed out the weekend Monday night with a loss to Eskişehirspor on the road. Koray Arslan struck twice in a three-minute span to put Eskişehirspor up 2-0 just after halftime. Elano Blumer's penalty kick in the 72nd minute closed the gap and Galatasaray pressured heavily in the closing moments. Eskişehirspor held firm, however, to pull out the 2-1 victory before their home fans. Galatasaray now lead the Canaries by just two points in the table, followed by Bursaspor who trail the Canaries by two points.
The league will play two rare mid-week games this week. Both are make-up games postponed due to heavy snowfall during week 18 earlier this season. Kasımpaşa will host Bursaspor Wednesday at 16:00. Beşiktaş will play host to IBBSpor four hours later at 20:00 Wednesday night.

I dont know what it is bro, but when we play galatasaray it is like a different Fenerbahce. I will tell you this. We are going to win. We need to pull together. I hope the summer transfers will pay off for us. I also think that if they are going to keep guiza he should play right wing, he might be a good Spanish style forward but even my 5 year old brother was asking me why he was playing because he is not a good forward........
What are your thoughts on this, Guiza as at right wing?(Just untill he leaves)
As allways I love you all my brothers and sisters.
