Daum: "We Need To Score Goals To Win The Championship"

Fenerbahçe manager Christoph Daum spoke to reporters after his team's goalless draw in Ankara on Saturday night and stated that his players had only created a few chances against Gençlerbirliği and they were unable to convert any of them into goals. "We've dropped two points here and frankly our shot at winning the league has now become more difficult," stated the German coach.

Yellow Canaries coach Christoph Daum spoke to the press after Fenerbahçe's 0-0 draw with Gençlerbirliği on Saturday night. "We created a few chances on goal in the first half, but we couldn't find the goal we were looking to score," Daum said, as he began his words.

"We've dropped two points here and frankly our shot at winning the league has now become more difficult," commented the Fenerbahçe manager. "We can be satisfied with the performance, but we were unable to convert any of the chances we created," said Daum. "We knew it would be tough to find chances against Gençlerbirliği," he added.

Christoph Daum was asked about his choice of striker, in particular about why he had preffered Gökhan Ünal over Dani Güiza. "I don't understand why you found this so surprising. Gökhan Ünal is a good striker," replied the Fenerbahçe boss. "He worked hard during training sessions and he deserved a starting spot in today's lineup," continued Daum.

"Both Dani Güiza and Semih Şentürk are good strikers, but so is Gökhan Ünal," he said. "Gökhan performed well tonight, but he was unlucky. A striker also needs to have luck on his side," commented the German coach. "Dani Güiza wasn't that bad in our previous games, but he wasn't that good either. So Gökhan Ünal deserved to play today," added Christoph Daum.

When asked about Fenerbahçe's chances of winning the Turkcell Süper Lig, Daum replied, "Well, unfortunately we can't say we've claimed an advantage today." The German coach was also asked whether his squad was sufficient. "Everyone knows about the current situation of our squad. We want to make the most of it, but we need to score goals to win the championship," said the Fener boss.

Lastly, Christoph Daum was asked where he would see himself if the team were to end the season in a bad position. "I am a football manager. Even if there's a failure, I'll still be doing my job. I'll do my best so that Fenerbahçe can be successful," said the German coach.

we need a good striker it's not daums fault it's aziz i blame everything to him

Aziz couldn't have known these players weren't going to perform. Guiza was the Pichichi winner..Thats a huge honour in world football.

He didn't know that Bilica wasn't as good as what was claimed.

Its nobodies fault except the players. Either start performing or your head goes on the chopping block. They need a wake up call.

Aykut Kocaman should be equally blamed i reckon. If he's the one responsible for the transfers, he should have done a better job.
Temirov123 • 03:43 • March 14, 2010
noo aykut should not be blamed.... AZIZ IS TO BE BLAMEd. He started to show off in the start of the season...

We were closely ready to get sercan for 12 million. But what happened Aziz dint get him even though he is 10 times better than guiza and sercan is young.....

Aziz is obsessed with old players....... okokook this is my team at soccer manager and it is a very solid team daum and all the members should see my lignup

This is an obvious statement said by Daum.

12m for Sercan is a bloody rip off. I'm glad we didn't pay that much for him cause we'd look like absolute idiots. Ozer, Topuz, Andre Santos, Cristian were cheaper than 12, what makes Sercan worth 12 mil?

The problem is that we can't perform without Alex. He is our heart and our brain. Totally indispensable for FB.
